About Queer Lisbon Tour
Queer Lisbon Tour is a company dedicated to researching Portugal's history, with the aim of narrating and understanding the historical and behavioral structures of marginalization that arise through social exclusion. This extends not only to the LGBTQ+ community but also to immigrants from Portugal's ex-colonies and the prejudice faced by the BIPOC community.
The Founders
Paulá is from the outskirts of São Paulo and has indigenous roots, she has made Portugal her home for the past six years. With a passion for entrepreneurship and the arts, she joined forces with her wife Leonor, a true "alfacinha" born and raised in Lisbon. Together, they've laid the foundation for Queer Lisbon Tour, where they delve into the impact of colonialism on their shared lives and history. By connecting the past with the present, they research the history of how homosexuality was seen during the Portuguese Empire, the erasure of indigenous knowledge, and how the past still shapes our culture and modern laws.
VISION
TO REDUCE SOCIAL EXCLUSION THROUGH STORYTELLING
We aim to expand the understanding of how the oppressive structures to which we remain bound perpetuate violence and limit opportunities for the social minorities we focus on. These groups often include Indigenous populations, racial and ethnic minorities, and other marginalized communities, such as the LGBTQ+ population, who continue to face social, economic, and political inequities in post-colonial societies.
MISSION
TO AMPLIFY VOICES AND BUILD EDUCATIONAL BRIDGES
Our mission is to building educational bridges through storytelling, fostering new neuropathways, and new ways of seeing people, with the purpose of reducing social exclusion, deeply rooted in prejudice and social stigmas. Additionally, we aim to create opportunities and share the narratives of those marginalized by colonialism and its ongoing impacts, broadening their access to education, healthcare, leisure, and professional opportunities.
